Week 5

Happy Sunday!

I hope that your week was as great and blessed as mine was. This weather is making not only me excited about school, but also making the classrooms a WHOLE lot cooler, thus making the students much easier to teach :) Fall is so beautiful, and I am so thankful that I get to have windows in my classroom to watch the leaves change color and fall off the trees. Last Week

6th Grade ~ Last week the 6th graders MAP tested. Because of that, the ELA schedule was a little crazy, but we figured everything out! On Monday, the students received a Monday Meditation about fears. I am very impressed with how the 6th graders are already getting the hang of Monday Meditations and keeping up with the work. So far, I haven't had ANY late Monday Meditations! On Wednesday, we played some grammar review games, which definitely hyped the students up about grammar. We also finished up our first unit of Good Habits Great Readers (GHGR), and the students received their first take home "test". I will be grading those projects (which were due on Friday) this week. On Thursday and Friday, we started Unit 2 of GHGR, which had to deal with making predictions. We will continue to work on making predictions this week.

7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders did a lot of small and large group reading of Among the Hidden. They seem to be getting quite into the book, which is always something I look forward to seeing! We are also continuing working on comprehension and vocabulary from the book, along with doing responsive prompts to get them thinking :) On Wednesday, we played some grammar review games, which definitely hyped the students up about grammar! Woo!

8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders MAP tested. Because of that, the ELA schedule was a little crazy, but we figured everything out! On Monday, the students started their Edgar Allan Poe unit by watching a very interesting documentary on his sad and gloomy life. We discussed why he wrote the famous stories that he did, and how his life helped inspire those stories that have made him so famous today. We also discussed the proper way to read a poem, and used those strategies to read "The Raven" together as a class. I look forward to reading more Poe stories with the 8th graders, and watching their reactions to the outcomes of some of them :) On Wednesday, we also played some grammar review games, which definitely hyped the students up about grammar :)

Just a reminder for ALL grades that Book Talks will be starting on October 17th. I have seen may students already working on their presentations, but please remind your son and/or daughter to keep working hard and staying on schedule when it comes to reading. I hate seeing students throw their entire presentation together the night before...

I hope you have a wonderful week! The weather is supposed to be glorious!

God's blessings on your week!

Grace
