Week 25

Good morning!

WHAT A GLORIOUS WEEKEND WE HAD! If you were anything like me, I tried spending as much time outside as I could yes

terday, trying to soak in some of that Vitamin D that has been non-existent the last few months. This week is supposed to be pretty nice too! Hopefully that means that spring is in the air and no more snow!

I wanted to say THANK YOU to all those that donated food for our food drive last week! In total, the school collected 286 items! It was so much fun seeing all of the food collected, and then being able to bring it to the Saukville Food Pantry. Thank you, thank you, thank you :)

Book talks/trailers start NEXT week! Please continue to be checking in with your child this week and making sure that they are getting done/working hard on their project. This will be our LAST book project this year due to Science Fair happening 4th quarter.

Important Dates:

  • March 3rd: Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.

  • March 9-17th: Book talk/trailer presentations

  • March 16-20th: Book Fair!

  • March 17th: Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.

  • March 20th: End of 3rd Quarter/Early dismissal

  • March 21-29th: SPRING BREAK!

Last Week:

6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders had a Monday Meditation on if sharks lived in forests (which they LOVED writing on, may I add!), which was due today. On Tuesday, I held a Book Tasting, where I set up the classroom like a restaurant and the students had the opportunity to get a "taste" of different books that they would be reading for our next unit, Literature Circles. For Literature Circles, each group will be reading a book from a different culture (African, Vietnamese, Hispanic, African American, Asian American, etc.). The goal for this unit is to expose the children to different cultures so as to build a better understanding and appreciation for different cultures in our society. Throughout the rest of the week, the students started reading their Literature Circle books and completed their first "job" in their comprehension packet. On Thursday, the students and I did a close reading lesson together. In grammar, the students continued to work with pattern 1 and pattern 2 and did a worksheet.

7th Grade ~ Last week on Monday, the students finished up their persuasive speeches. The students also did a Monday Meditation and I introduced them to the last speech of the unit, demonstration speeches. Throughout the week, the students worked on their demonstration speeches: picking topics, working on their speech outlines, and then working on visual aids and note-cards. We will be doing the demonstration speeches THIS week! On Thursday, I started the 7th graders on some IXL practice in preparation for the spring MAP testing (NOTE: IXL is NOT graded or homework, just done in class when assigned). In Shurley grammar, the students learned about about possessive noun adjectives and did a worksheet. In advanced grammar, the students got their Unit 2 study guide. NOTE: there will be a grammar test NEXT Wednesday.

8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders worked with list 18 of Latin/Greek roots and took their quiz on Friday. Throughout the week, the 8th graders and I finished TBT!! It is always a sad, yet exciting moment when we finish TBT because I love reading this book with the students, but also am excited to start new things! And speaking of that, your child will be bringing home ANOTHER permission slip this week for our next unit, A Midsummer Night's Dream. This will be due back to me by NEXT Monday. The 8th graders did a Flipgrid activity for the ending of TBT (an online video response program), which I think they really enjoyed :) In grammar, the students took their Unit 5 test and most did VERY well! If your child did not do well and received a notice, they do have the opportunity to do test corrections, which are due THIS Friday.

Have a great week! Enjoy the sunshine!

Grace
