Happy Monday!!
It's been awhile since I sent one of these out, but with the last 2 weeks being 4 day weeks, I figured I'd just combine them into 1 post... Makes life easier :)
Crazy enough, book talks/trailers are coming up in 2 WEEKS! The students this quarter had the choice to pick between a book talk or a trailer (they have access to both rubrics already). ATTENTION! THIS WEEK is a great opportunity to help out a teacher at FILS as well as those less fortunate! The Student Council is sponsoring a food drive for the Saukville Food Pantry. Just bring in canned/boxed food and place it in the correct bin by the middle school/choir room door. A Student Council member will be manning the boxes and labeling which teacher the items will be going towards. The teacher with the most goods by the end of the week will be receiving a FREE ticket to the FILS Auction on March 14th. Helping 2 causes at once!
Important Dates:
March 3rd: Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.
March 9-17th: Book talk/book trailer presentations
March 16th: Book fair!!!
March 17th: Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.
The Last 2 Weeks:
6th Grade ~ 2 weeks ago, the students worked on a Valentine's Day themed Monday Meditation which was due last Tuesday. The students spent the week working on their decade projects and making final adjustments before presentations. On Thursday, the students did a Close Reading assignment in class, which basically means the students looked closely at a poem and analyzed it. In grammar, the 6th graders continued to work with pattern 2 and did a worksheet. LAST WEEK, the students created their own rubric for their decade projects which they used to help grade their own project. The rest of the week was spent presenting the decade projects to the class. Grades and presentations can be found on Seesaw and Renweb. On Friday, each student filled out a group evaluation. In grammar, the students combined both pattern 1 and 2 and did a worksheet.
7th Grade ~ 2 weeks, ago, the students worked on a Valentine's Day themed Monday Meditation which was due last Tuesday. Throughout the week, the students worked on their persuasive speech pro/con list, research, outline, and visual aids. In Shurley grammar, the students worked with natural/inverted word order and did a worksheet. In advanced grammar, the students learned about gerunds and did a worksheet. LAST WEEK, the 7th graders presented their persuasive speeches to the class. Grades have already been posted on both Seesaw and Renweb. I was SO impressed with how well they went! The students definitely have started getting the hang of speeches. There was NO grammar last week because of speeches.
8th Grade ~ 2 weeks ago, the 8th graders worked with list #17 of Latin/Greek roots and then took their quiz on Thursday (because there was no school that Friday). Monday and Tuesday were spent discussing the Holocaust and how it impacted those in the concentration camps. The students then were given a real victim of the Holocaust and did a short reflection on their life before and after the war. In grammar, the students learned about irregular verbs and did a worksheet. LAST WEEK, the students and I cruised through TBT, reading chapters 57-69 (almost 100 pages!). The 8th graders also did a variety of accompanying activities: Seesaw partner questions, a Seesaw exit slip, and a journal entry. In grammar, the students did a unit review. NOTE: there will be a grammar test THIS Wednesday on Unit 5 (the students have a study guide).
Phew! I think that's all! Have a great week!
Grace
