Weeks 9 & 10

Happy Halloween/Reformation Day!

I hope you all have had a great 2 weeks. I decided that I would combine the last 2 weeks because of less school days and our Patriot's Pen unit that has been wrapping up. For those of you who have been asking, moving went wonderfully and Katy and I are finally feeling relaxed and at home... right in time for conferences! Haha! And speaking of conferences...

  • No Student Council meeting - November 1st

Last 2 Weeks

6th Grade ~ The last 2 weeks, the 6th grade wrote their Patriot's Pen essays. Once our rough drafts were completed, we self-edited and peer-edited. The students enjoyed working and helping each other out. I was very impressed with the effort and workmanship of the students on their essays! Over the last 2 weeks, the 6th graders also presented their first set of book talks and I was floored at how well-done they were! Keep up the great work! The rest of the 2 weeks were spent on grammar (Chapter 1 test and an introduction Chapter 2). In the next 2 weeks, we will begin our first class novel titled, Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie. I am very excited to start reading with them!

7th Grade ~ The last 2 weeks, the 7th grade wrote their Patriot's Pen essays. Once our rough drafts were completed, we worked on peer-editing. Because I am not allowed to really help the students with their Patriot's Pen essays, this allows the students to help each other out and give suggestions. The 7th graders also presented their first quarter book talks the last 2 weeks. As always, they were very well-done and very detailed. For grammar, we finished up with Chapter 1 by taking a short test, and then began Chapter 2. In the next 2 weeks, we will finish reading Among the Hidden and start on the novel final project.

8th Grade ~ The last 2 weeks, the 8th grade planned out their Patriot's Pen essays and wrote their rough drafts. Once their rough drafts were completed, we worked on peer-editing. Because I am not allowed to really help the students with their Patriot's Pen essays, this allows the students to help each other out and give suggestions. The 8th graders also presented their first quarter book talks the last 2 weeks. As always, they were very well-done and very detailed. For grammar, we finished up with Chapter 1 by taking a short test, and then began Chapter 2. In the next 2 weeks, we will begin our The Book Thief unit by doing a mini-research project on WWII events. Thank you to all of those who have filled out the permission slips already. Like stated on the sheet, while I think the book is very appropriate for the students, it is about the Holocaust which can be very depressing and deep. I encourage any parents who have not read this book to please do so. It is such a beautiful book :)

All ~ All Patriot's Pen Essays were turned in last Friday! Around Veteran's Day is when I usually find out how the students did. I am always so anxious because all of the essays are so good. I don't know how the VFW can read all of them and select winners. Such a tedious and stressful task! Good luck to all of my students on their essays!

Have a glorious Halloween/Reformation Day!

Grace
