Happy Veteran's Day!

Aren't we having such beautiful weather this time of year? Who would have thought that we would be experiencing 60's in November! Regardless, I'm not going to complain. Ms. Shields, Daisy, and I have been enjoying the walks we have been taking during the evenings. Too bad it's getting darker earlier though. Moreover, let's just hope this weather keeps up! :) Anyways...

The last 2 weeks

6th Grade ~ The last 2 weeks, the 6th grade has started reading their first class novel of the year, Drums, Girls, & Dangerous Pie. Throughout this unit, the students will continue working on the reading strategies that they use while reading, and completing some activities to go along with it (i.e. comprehension questions, reading strategies packet, etc.). This week, we introduced chapters 1-3 vocabulary and the journal prompts. This will be something that we always do so that the students are familiar with the words when they encounter them in the book, along with then applying those words and the knowledge from the book to complete journal prompts. As a class, we also read chapters 1-5. The students really seem to be enjoying the book so far, and I cannot wait to keep reading it with them! In grammar, we took our Chapter 2 Test, and as always, I was very impressed with the grades and hard work that was put forth.

7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders continued to read Among the Hidden. When they got back from Outdoor Ed (which I missed them very much during), we finished the book together as a class. Next week, we will begin our final project for the unit. On Friday, we took our Chapter 2 Test, and as always, I was very impressed with the grades and hard work that was put forth.

8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders started their WWII research projects. Before we start reading The Book Thief, I always like to introduce the history that is going on before/during the book. For this project, the students had the opportunity to do the project alone/with a partner/small group. They then picked a WWII topic, and were responsible for researching it and preparing a 10-20 minute presentation. This week, the students began presenting their projects, and will continue with it the beginning of next week. Additionally, in grammar, we took our Chapter 2 Test, and as always, I was very impressed with the grades and hard work that was put forth.

ALL ~ This week, the students signed up for their 2nd quarter book trailers. Note: book trailers are different from book talks in that they are a video, not a PowerPoint/Google Slides presentation. We will begin presenting book trailers January 3rd, so the students have PLENTY of time to read/start creating their book trailers.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! The weather is supposed to be nice (did you catch my overall theme? haha :) Clearly I am enjoying the weather topic too much these days...)!

God's blessings on your day/weekend/Veteran's Day!

Grace
