Good morning!
It's the 3rd week of advent, which can only mean 1 thing... THE PINK CANDLE! My entire life, I have always liked the pink candle in advent for 2 reasons: 1) It means only 1 more week until Christmas, and 2) it's PINK! However, as I have gotten older, I have learned to appreciate the other meaning behind the pink candle: rejoicing that our Lord is coming soon. What a great celebration to look forward to!

Last Week
6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders turned in their DGDP Section 2 packet and were given their Section 3 packet (Section 3 will be due next Monday). We are still working our way through DGDP, and as always, the students are loving it. I've said it once and I'll say it again: never have I seen such enthusiasm for reading, and I. LOVE. IT. On Wednesday, the students took their first prepositions quiz on list #1 (they all did great!), and then we continued to work with prepositions, completing a word search to make them more familiar with all 51 of the prepositions. On Thursday, the students did a text features scavenger hunt to better their understanding of text features of informational text, and on Friday we did a mini-lesson on cause & effect, analyzing the events throughout DGDP and how they have effected the characters thus far.
7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders finished discussing "The Mending Wall" by Robert Frost, and then started learning about alliteration and onomatopoeia. For onomatopoeia, the students will be creating their own comic strip, using at least 5 examples of onomatopoeia, which will be due on Wednesday. In grammar, the students took their first prepositions quiz on list #1 (they all did great!), and then we continued to work with prepositions, completing a preposition drawing and writing about it using prepositional phrases.
8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders got their 6th list of Latin/Greek roots and took their quiz on Friday. The rest of the week, we finished reading part 1 of TBT, and did some activities to go along with it: a
journal prompt and discussion questions. On Wednesday, the students took their first prepositions quiz on list #1 (they all did great!), and then we continued to work with prepositions, completing a word search to make them more familiar with all 51 of the prepositions. On Thursday, the 8th graders started reading Part 2 of TBT, and we will finish it this coming week. The students also did some MAP testing practice with prefixes/suffixes.
ALL STUDENTS: Reminder that on Wednesday, the students will be taking their 2nd prepositions quiz on list #2.
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and a blessed 3rd week of advent!
Grace
