Week 38

One more week to go!!!

I hope you all have a joyous and blessed Memorial Day!

Important Events

  • May 31st - Student Council Bowling after school

  • June 1st - All School Picnic

  • June 2nd - Last day of school!

  • June 2nd - 8th Grade Graduation Ceremony

This Week

6th Grade ~ This week, the 6th graders finished up their book talks/trailers, as well as final details/discussions on our novel, The River. On Wednesday/Thursday, we, as a class, reviewed for the comprehensive test, and then the students took that test today (Friday). Next week, we will correct The River tests, and wrap up 6th grade stuff!

7th Grade ~ This week, the 7th graders finished up their book talks/trailers. We then spent the rest of the week discussing and planning demonstration speeches. This coming (and FINAL!) week, the students will present their demonstration speeches. Presentation dates are as follows:

  • Tuesday: Joelle, Elena, Owen, Hannah, Lauralei, Grace, Finn, Lily, Alison, Faith, and Garrett.

  • Wednesday: Naomi, Kyle, Paige, Wesley, Caleb, Ellie, Alyssa, Jacob, Ellery, Sarah, Lena, and Nora.

  • Thursday: Nathaniel, Caiden, and Mason.

8th Grade ~ This week, the 8th graders started their final unit as an ELA student at FILS. This week, the students selected a short story from a list of stories I supplied, and they were then assigned groups based on their preferences. As a group, the students did a pre-reading activity about the story, read the story, completed some comprehension questions about the story, and then created a short "book talk" about what they read. Group presentations will be on Tuesday. The rest of the week will be devoted to wrapping up 8th grade stuff! Also, just a reminder that 4th quarter book "talks" are due by the last day of school!

ALL ~

  • If your child has checked out any books from my classroom library OR the school library, please make sure they get those books in by next Tuesday at the latest.

  • On Wednesday, the House (pertaining to house points) that won the most points all year will be having a lunch party with me, so those students will NOT need to pack a lunch that day. I will let the students and parents (via email) know who won on Tuesday! Also, just a fun fact, if your child has been talking about the house points that go on in my classroom and you are curious, all 4 houses managed to win a quarter for most points! How convenient... ;)

Have a wonderful LONG weekend!

Grace
