Week 37

Good morning and Happy Sunday!

I hope all of you have been enjoying your weekend. It has been a little wet here and there, but the sun is shining now, and I'm going to take every minute of that sun and appreciate it! Also, I apologize for not writing a blog last week; my car decided to die and I was unable to have access to my school computer. However, the car is not longer a problem and I am busy at work getting ready for the end of the school year!

Additionally, congrats to our Confirmands this special day! I cannot wait to celebrate with you this afternoon!

  • May 31st - Student Council bowling after school

Last Week

6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders started presenting their book talks/trailers; so far, I have been extremely impressed with just how much they have improved from 1st quarter, until now! We will finish up book talks/trailers this coming Tuesday. On Wednesday, the students took their grammar post-test. The purpose of this test was not to be graded, but to rather show me, the school, and you as parents how much the students have learned this year in grammar. The rest of the week was devoted to finishing up The River. This coming week, we will wrap up the story with some plot diagramming and compare/contrast activities, fill out a study guide on the novel, and then take a comprehensive test on Friday.

7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders started presenting their book talks/trailers; so far, I have been extremely impressed with just how much they have improved from 6th grade, until now! We will finish up book talks/trailers this coming Tuesday. Monday and Tuesday, the students finished up with the planning portion of their persuasive speeches, and then began presenting their speeches on Wednesday. This coming week, we will begin our very last speech, demonstration speeches. Those speeches will be presented the last week of school.

8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders wrapped up their Exceptionalities Unit by watching "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" which is about a man who was born being hunchback and how he has to learn to live his live and go through the trials of being made fun of for his exceptionality. I always like to end the unit this way because it truly shows the kids how people can be treated for being different, and that it doesn't matter what we look like or how we talk or how we learn - we're all special and perfect in God's eyes. On Wednesday, the students took their grammar post-test. The purpose of this test was not to be graded, but to rather show me, the school, and you as parents how much the students have learned this year in grammar. This coming week, the students will complete their final ELA unit, which is on short stories. I will be splitting the students into groups, and with their groups they will be reading a short story, completing some simple comprehensive questions about the story, and then presenting a final project to their classmates about the story they read (this will be done the last week of school). Also, just a reminder that the 8th graders have until the very last day of school to turn in their book "talk".

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Grace
