Happy Friday! You have NO idea how excited I am for it to be the weekend. With recovering from lack of sleep from Washington D.C. this week has been exhausting! However, I wouldn't trade the trip or experiences the students and I had for anything. I had a blast getting to learn alongside my students, as well as visit our nation's capitol once again. We are truly blessed here at FILS to be able to take such an educational and FUN trip! Thank you to all those parents who chaperoned and/or helped with the trip. I know your children appreciate it!
And the countdown begins... 24 school days left until summer!

This Week
6th Grade ~ This week, the 6th graders worked on a WebQuest about edible foods in the wild and their book talks/trailers while I was gone Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, the students and I discussed the WebQuest, and then we started reading The River. For this unit, the students will be doing a combination of vocabulary and comprehension activities, as well as mini comprehension quizzes. On Friday, the students and I discussed the first 6 chapters of the book, and then the students did some comprehension questions on the text. These comprehension questions will be due Monday. There was no grammar this week.
7th Grade ~ This week, the 7th graders finished finding research for their informative speeches, and then started creating their visual aids. We will begin presenting speeches next Tuesday. Presentation dates are as follows:
Tuesday - Paige, Lauralei, Kyle, Jacob, Nora, and Mason
Wednesday - Joelle, Wesley, Elena, Lily, Lena, Alison, and Alyssa
Thursday - Hannah, Naomi, Ellie, Nathaniel, Sarah, Caiden, and Faith
Friday - Ty, Owen, Caleb, Ellery, Finn, and Garrett
After informative speeches, we will begin Persuasive speeches. There was no grammar this week.
8th Grade ~ This week, the 8th graders were taught how to properly cite their sources in their research papers, and how to determine the difference between citations and plagiarism. The rest of the week was then devoted to working on rough drafts. The students will have ALL of next week to work on their rough drafts, and then those rough drafts are due Monday, May 8th. The students will also have a roots quiz next Friday.
ALL ~
Just a reminder that we will begin presenting book talks/trailers May 15th!
8th Grade: Students should still be reading a book. Their "book talks" are due to me by the end of the school year!
I will be sending home book orders next week for those that are wishing to order books. This will be the last book orders for the school year. If you are wanting to order, the classroom code is: PBKZC, and orders are due to me by May 26th.
Have a wonderful weekend!
