Week 22

Good morning, one and all!

I hope your weekend was awesome! I know that my weekend went wayyyy too quickly and I was hoping for a little more sleep; but hey, there's always next weekend :) Also, I would just like to thank ALL of you for being so supportive of FILS during National Lutheran Schools Week. It was an absolute blast and definitely the best NLSW I've ever had. While your students may not appreciate you for sending them to a Lutheran school right now, I know that they are so blessed to be able to attend such a wonderful school and will realize it one day. I know I did :) Furthermore, thank you, thank you, thank you for supporting your child's education!

Last Week

6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders were introduced to their next project/unit, which is their author research project. For this project, the students will be researching one of their favorite authors and then taking that information to create a digital video - writing a script and recording their voice to narrate a picture-based presentation. Most of the work for this project will be done inside of class. The research portion for the project will be due Thursday, February 2nd. In grammar, the students continued working with pronouns, and learned a new type... possessive pronoun adjectives, aka "PPAs!"

7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders did an activity on stereotyping and learned about the effects of judging others. I think that this activity really hit home and showed the students just how much they may not think about first impressions on new people. Afterwards, we began reading the first chapter of The Outsiders. In grammar, the students continued working with pronouns, and learned a new type... possessive pronoun adjectives, aka "PPAs!" The rest of the week, the students and I discussed the difference between "tough" and "tuff" (a reference from The Outsiders) and then the students began creating a digital poster about what "tuff" means to them. This poster will be due Wednesday, February 1st.

8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders turned in their Standover Man projects coinciding with Part 4 of The Book Thief. I then split the students into groups (primarily selected by them) where they are responsible for reading Part 5 with their groups and practicing their time management skills to complete the section by Wednesday, February 1st. I have been very impressed so far by the work ethic that the students have put forth towards their reading. Additionally, to demonstrate their knowledge of Part 5, the students have an assignment titled "4 in a Row" where they need to pick 4 projects from the sheet to complete about Part 5. This 4 in a Row will be Due Friday, February 3rd. In grammar, the students continued working with pronouns, and learned a new type... possessive pronoun adjectives, aka "PPAs!"

Have a blessed week!

Grace
