Last Week
6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders were assigned their 2016-2017 Inspirations Prompt (see document in LA folder titled: 2016-2017 Inspirations Prompt). In the past, the students picked a piece of writing that they were proud of from the school year and it was submitted for that year's Inspirations booklet (now website). To eliminate excess stress for those who are in charge of organizing/editing/revising/publishing the Inspirations website, this year we chose to try something new where each grade was given a prompt and all the students in that grade wrote about the same thing (just different responses obviously). This prompt will be due tomorrow (Monday) and is taking the place of this past week's Monday Mediation. I am so excited to see what the students wrote, and I hope this new format is something we can continue in the future! On Wednesday for grammar, the students continued to work with possessive pronoun adjectives. The rest of the week was dedicated to finishing up research for the Author Research Project (rubric titled: Author Research Project Rubric in LA folder), and then the students began writing their scripts for the video portion of the project. Based on how well the students are progressing throughout this project, it is my goal for the final project (research, video, and recording) to be done and due Monday, February 13th. The students will have most of this coming week to work on their videos, and the only thing that should need to be completed outside of class will be the recording portion (it is too noisy at school).

The students turned in their "Tuff" Poster for The Outsiders on Tuesday, and then we began reading chapters 2 and 3 the rest of the week. I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the enthusiasm for the book so far, and cannot wait to continue working through The Outsiders with the students! On Wednesday for grammar, the students continued to work with possessive pronoun adjectives.
8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders were assigned their 2016-2017 Inspirations Prompt. In the past, the students picked a piece of writing that they were proud of from the school year and it was submitted for that year's Inspirations booklet (now website). On Wednesday for grammar, the students continued to work with possessive pronoun adjectives. The rest of the week was dedicated to finishing up Part 5 of The Book Thief, and then starting Part 6 with the students. From now on, we are going to being zooming through the book, and will (fingers crossed) hopefully finish up the novel by the end of February. Then it's research paper time! :P
All ~
This week I will be sending home book orders with those students who are interested. Remember that you can either send the order with a check and I will mail it in OR you can order online using MY code which is PBKZC.
Please keep reminding/encouraging your child to be reading. The students are aware of the fact that while they don't have a book talk due to me this quarter, they are still required to read a book and turn it into me (I feel like I remind them of this every day... haha). We still have over half of a quarter left, but I hate seeing the students rush through books when they start falling behind.
Have a wonderful rest of your weekend! Enjoy the Super Bowl!
