Happy President's Day (one day early)!
Isn't it great to think that there is STILL one more day of break?! I can't remember the last time I caught up on so much sleep. I have been telling the students that at this time of the year, I find myself falling asleep on the couch every night and then waking up at 3 a.m. only to sleep about 2 hours in my bed. It's definitely hard this time of year without the sun and Vitamin D... BUT... this weekend is glorious! I can't remember a time where I walked around outside without a coat on in the middle of February. Enjoy the weekend, the beautiful weather, and the extra times with your families this wonderful President's Day weekend!

Last Week
6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders finished working on their Author Research Projects and we started watching the videos in class. While it can be nerve-wrecking listening to yourself on a video, I am thrilled at how well done the videos are so far and how the students have been handling themselves. We will continue watching the videos most likely up through this coming Wednesday, and then we are going to be beginning Literature Circles! In grammar, the students began working with conjunctions.
7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders turned in their Socs vs. Greasers prezis. We reviewed the 10 Commandments as a mini-lesson, and used what we knew about each commandment to analyze chapter 4 of The Outsiders. This was a great lesson to implement because of the lifestyle of the characters in the book - it's been fun watching the students react to certain situations and be like: "That's awful! How could their parents let them do that!?" Furthermore, the 10 Commandment lesson was worthwhile :) On Wednesday, the students took a short quiz on chapters 1-4 of The Outsiders, and all did very well. On Thursday, the students read chapter 5 in small groups. In grammar, the students began working with conjunctions.
8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders received list #9 of Latin/Greek roots and then took the quiz on Thursday because there was no school on Friday. The rest of the week was devoted to reading Part 7 of The Book Thief. On Wednesday, the students took a short "quiz" on chapters 51-53, and every question they got right was extra credit towards their ELA grade. In grammar, the students began working with conjunctions.
All ~ Just a reminder that you can still order books from the Scholastic Book Orders. If you are wanting to order and do not have a form, please contact me and I will send some home with your child. Otherwise, you can order online. Please make sure to use my classroom code: PBKZC.
Have a wonderful President's Day!
