Last Week

6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders were assigned their Literature Circle groups, and began meeting with them. I have enjoyed seeing how well each group is progressing and the conversations that they are having while reading. The students also began completing jobs for their literature circles. Job assignments will be posted on RenWeb prior to the day that it is assigned so that students know which days will be job days. Note: not all days will jobs be assigned. I like to mix it up a bit so that the students have an equal opportunity to discuss and read with their groups. The only outside work for literature circles should be jobs (if they don't finish them in class). These jobs can be found in a colorful packet, which the student should have.

7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders read chapters 6-8 of The Outsiders. We did a lot of discussing about the novel itself and the difference between the characters. We also discussed what it means to be a hero... which doesn't just include running into a burning building to save someone. I talked about how important it is to think of others before yourself, and we talked about the heros that are our parents. :) Thank you for being awesome parents!

8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders finished reading Parts 8 and 9 of The Book Thief. We completed 2 journal entries about irony and metaphors, and then did some discussion questions to go along with the reading sections. On Monday, I will be sending home a permission slip to watch The Book Thief movie starting March 13th. The permission slip will be due this coming Friday. Thank you for supporting your child throughout this entire unit! I know that your students appreciate it.

All ~

  • Just a note that I will be sending home book orders this coming week. If you are ordering online, please use my classroom code: PBKZC.

  • Also, I have been reminding the students, but please be encouraging your children to be reading at home. "Book Talks" are due in 13 days! While that is still plenty of time to accomplish a book, it is starting to get close to "waiting until the last minute." And there's nothing worse than feeling stressed about an assignment :)

Have a great day!

Good luck, Wildcats! Play your hearts out! We're so proud of you!

Grace
