Week 29

Good morning!

God's blessings to you this Sunday morning! I pray that you all had a rested weekend and a beautiful Sunday church service. Lent is such a great time of the church year to meditate on our lives and remember the role of Christ Jesus in the salvation we have from sin.

Also, thank you to all of those parents who helped make Grandparent's Day a success. The committee and I truly appreciate all the time donated. We are absolutely blessed to be at such a welcoming and supportive school.

  • March 20 - 23rd - 6th Grade MAP testing

  • March 20-21st - 8th Grade MAP testing

  • March 28-29th - 7th Grade MAP testing

  • March 21st - Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.

Last Week

6th Grade ~ Last week, the sixth graders finished up with their MAP testing goals in preparation for actual testing this coming week. It is my hope that with the extra practice on certain skills that we have done this year, the students' scores will improve. The rest of the week was devoted to continuing with Literature circles and the activity packets that they are working on. Based on how the students are progressing throughout their books, I anticipate that we will be finishing up with Literature Circles in the next 2 weeks, and starting our final novel study of the school year, The River by Gary Paulsen. On Wednesday, the students took the Chapter 5 grammar test on conjunctions. Note that these test scores will be on 4th quarter.

7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders read chapters 10 and 11 of The Outsiders, completed some comprehension questions on the sections that they have read lately, as well as took a quiz in which all of them did very well on. I cannot believe how quickly we have made it through this novel - only 1 more chapter left! Later this coming week, I will be sending home the permission slip to watch The Outsiders movie. It will be due March 29th. On Wednesday, the students took the Chapter 5 grammar test on conjunctions. Note that these test scores will be on 4th quarter.

8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders turned in their The Book Thief journals and we then watched The Book Thief movie. It was fun to observe how the students were finding similarities and differences between the book and movie. I also gave the students the opportunity to work on their final projects for the book while watching the movie. The students had 3 different project options: 1) a 30 question review game, 2) a book talk/trailer for the novel, or 3) a chronological timeline of the book. These projects are due this coming Monday, March 20th. There was no grammar this week due to watching the movie and Grandparent's Day.

All ~ I will be assigning 4th quarter book talks/trailers in the weeks to follow. For 4th quarter, the students will have the option of either completing a book talk OR trailer for the book that they read. Both rubrics can be found in the students' LA folders in Google Drive.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Grace
