Week 33

Good afternoon!!

I hope all of you had a wonderful spring break! I cannot believe that we only have 27 school days left for the year! It's crazy to think how quickly this year has gone, and how much the students have grown (literally and academically) this school year!

Please know that I will be gone the rest of this week and Monday-Tuesday of next week for the Washington D.C. trip with the 7th and 8th graders. If you need to get a hold of me for any reason, I will have my phone and email. Just know I may not reply until odd times of the day (5 a.m. or 10 p.m.). This Week

6th Grade ~ This week, the 6th graders were introduced to Gary Paulsen, the author of The River and the novel we will begin reading starting next Tuesday. The students spent Tuesday and Wednesday doing an online WebQuest on the author, and then we discussed the answers and his life on Thursday. As a class, we came to the realization that he is a VERY interesting author! We also watched a very brief interview of Gary Paulsen, which the students seemed to very much enjoy. Next week while I am gone, the students will be doing an investigation on what types of nature are edible :)

7th Grade ~ This week, the 7th graders were introduced to their very first formal speech: the informative speech. We discussed how to properly give an informative speech, and then began brainstorming topics that the students would be interested in giving their speeches on. On Wednesday, the students then selected their topics and began researching and finding facts to support their speech. When we get back from D.C., we will begin organizing our speeches and start putting them together/practicing them. The 7th graders will begin presenting speeches on May 2nd.

8th Grade ~ This week, the 8th graders were refreshed on how to make an outline, and then spent the rest of the week organizing their thoughts into their outlines. Outlines were due Thursday at the end of class so that the students would not have to think about their research papers while on the D.C. trip! On Wednesday, Mrs. Pergande came in and talked to the 8th graders about her son, Evan, who was born with an exceptionality, and how it has effected their lives. The students were very respectful and seemed to enjoy her upbeat discussion :) When we get back from D.C., the students will be starting the writing portion of the research paper, and rough drafts will be due Monday, May 8th.

Both 6th/7th Grades ~ Just a reminder that book talks/trailers are coming up soon! The students will begin presenting them May 15th (less than a month away)! Please be reminding your children to read! Thank you!

Have a wonderful trip!

God's blessings!

Grace
