Good morning!
I hope you all had a great weekend! It was wonderful seeing many of you at Pastor Kelm's funeral last night. I know that he was looking down and truly awed by how many people attended his service. He was a wonderful pastor, friend, and teacher, and I hope and pray that all of you were able to interact with him in some way. He will be sincerely missed. That being said, please continue to keep the Kelm family in your prayers. While we can all rejoice that he is no longer suffering and is with God in heaven, it is still hard to lose a beloved husband and father. I know their family appreciates the prayers.

6th Grade ~ Last week, the students were assigned their 2nd Monday Meditation, which was due today. We then spent the rest of the week discussing Author's Purpose, and doing different activities to practice identifying/using that skill. We also reviewed text features, which we will continue to review in the weeks to come. In grammar, the students took their first grammar test on nouns, verbs, and adverbs. I was very impressed with the scores that the students had after just one practice/review over the skills. This week, we will be reviewing adjectives.
7th Grade ~ Last week, the students were assigned their 2nd Monday Meditation, which was due today. On Tuesday, I explained how we are going to be doing vocabulary for The Giver, i.e. a word study, which was then due on Friday. This week, the students will be presenting the word that they were assigned for the word study. We then began reading The Giver together as a class! While The Giver is a very abstract book, the students have been literally eating up the content in it, and it takes everything in me to tell them that they have to stop reading. I suppose there could be worse things in a teacher's life :) In grammar, the students took their first grammar test on nouns, verbs, and adverbs. I was very impressed with the scores that the students had after just one practice/review over the skills. This week, we will be reviewing adjectives.
8th Grade ~ Last week, the students got their 3rd Latin/Greek roots list, and then took their quiz on Friday. As a reminder to parents as to how Latin/Greek roots work in 8th grade: every week the students will get a list on Monday, we will practice with the words Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and then the quiz will be Friday. This week, the students will be getting their 4th list, and the quiz will be on Friday. The rest of last week was devoted to making the finishing touches on the What's in a Name Essay; title page, bibliography page, peer editing, and the digital footprint. Final drafts will be due tomorrow (Tuesday, September 19th). I look forward to reading the essays and learning about the names that you all chose for them :) In grammar, the students took their first grammar test on nouns, verbs, and adverbs. I was very impressed with the scores that the students had after just one practice/review over the skills. This week, we will be reviewing adjectives.
All ~ Just a reminder that the students will begin presenting book talks in a little less than a month (we start October 16th). Please keep encouraging your children to be reading and working on their book talks!
Have a blessed week!
