6th Grade ~ Last week, the students were assigned another Monday Meditation; they continue to get better and better each week! Yay! We then spent the rest of the week discussing how to make conclusions while reading, and did some correlating activities, such as playing Heads Up (picture on Seesaw), reading a short story, and completing some comprehension questions. As a close to this first unit, the students were assigned a short writing prompt (Unit 1: Write About It), which will be due tomorrow at the beginning of class (Tuesday). In grammar, the students reviewed adjectives and did a worksheet to practice.

7th Grade ~ Last week, the students took a quiz on The Giver ch. 1-5, and then reviewed the first 5 chapters via comprehension questions. The students also presented their first word study word to their peers. The 2nd word study word was assigned Friday and will be due this coming Wednesday (27th). The rest of the week, the students and I read chapter 6 of The Giver, and discussed what the story is about. I continue to be amazed by the students' enthusiasm and intrigue by the book; it is making my job so much fun! :) In grammar, the students reviewed adjectives and did a worksheet to practice.

8th Grade ~ Last week, the students received list #4 for their Latin/Greek roots, and then took a quiz on Friday. Overall, I have been pleased with the students' participation in class and grades on the roots quizzes. However, if you are noticing that your child is not doing very well on their quizzes, please be encouraging them to take a few minutes to look over the list the night before. Roots quizzes are only 10 questions long, therefore, there is not much room for error. While the quizzes are fairly easy, if students do not understand the 3 roots of the week/have not been paying attention to in-class practice/do not study for the quizzes, they are not going to do very well on the quizzes themselves. On Tuesday, the students and I started our short story unit by reading "The Lady or the Tiger." We finished up the story on Wednesday, and then the students did comprehension questions on Thursday and Friday. Throughout this unit, the students and I are going to be exploring different authors, themes, and plots, as well as teaching them how to annotate a text (a requirement when students get to high school). In grammar, the students reviewed adjectives and did a worksheet to practice, and there will be a short test on the adjectives this coming Wednesday.

All ~ Book talks are starting in just a little over 3 weeks!!

Have a wonderful week!

Grace
