HAPPY (late) THANKSGIVING!
I hope you all had a fantastic and blessed Thanksgiving! There's nothing better than being able to get together with family, eat delicious food, watch football, and remember the true meaning of Thanksgiving: thanking God for all of our blessings.
PSA: Over break, I went and saw "Wonder" the movie. If you/your children have not seen it yet, I HIGHLY suggest that you go see it. The message of kindness is so powerful, and the story is just so cute. Also, if you're interested, the movie is based off the book, "Wonder," by R.J. Palacio. So, good! I definitely recommend it!

Last Week
6th Grade ~ The last 2 weeks, the 6th graders have continued reading DGDP; and thoroughly enjoying it, may I add :) We continue to read together, complete comprehension questions and prompts, as well as the Section 1 & Section 2 reading strategy packets (packet 2 due tomorrow). Last week, the students also took a short quiz on chapters 1-8 of the book, and did very well! As a class, we did a mini lesson on character traits, and the students then did a drawing on their favorite character from DGDP. In grammar, the students began Chapter 4, which is on pronouns, including, subject pronouns and possessive pronoun adjectives (PPAs).
7th Grade ~ The last 2 weeks, the 7th graders finished working on their Personal Utopian Philosophy projects. The end of last week they began presenting their utopias to the class, and will finish presenting this week (hopefully Wednesday). After we finish up with this unit, the students and I will begin our poetry/figurative language unit (yay poetry!). In grammar, the students continued working with pronouns.
8th Grade ~ The last 2 weeks, the 8th graders studied for their Quarter 1 Latin/Greek roots test. As a class, we played multiple review games (matching, "I Have, Who Has...", and Bingo), to prepare for the test (which they all did VERY well on!). This week, we will continue to work with a new list of roots. The students finished up their literature circles on "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," and handed in their job packets (reading strategy focused assignments). To close up the short story unit, we played the Kahoots that the students made for extra credit. Additionally, last week, I introduced The Book Thief (TBT) to the students: explaining the unit expectations, collecting permission slips, discussing the author, Markus Zusak, and then assigning their first assignment for the unit. For this assignment, each student selected a WWII themed topic and will be becoming an "expert" on that topic. On Wednesday, the students will be presenting their topics to the class, and we will be discussing the topics as a class in preparation for the events of The Book Thief.
ALL~
Just a reminder that book trailers (rubrics found in the students' ELA folder on Google Drive) will be starting when we get back from Christmas break (January 3rd). Please be encouraging your child to be reading their books!
Later this week, I will be sending home book orders with the students. These book orders are great at this time of year because they contain great gifts for students, family members, etc. They also have GREAT DEALS!
Have a wonderful week!
Only 27 days until Christmas :)
