Week 15

Happy snowy Monday! ('Bout time it snowed, right?)

God's blessings to you this 2nd week of Advent! As we light the 2nd Advent candle, or "The Bethlehem Candle," we remember how God kept his promise of a Savior who would be born in Bethlehem (Luke 3:4-6). What a great and amazing promise!

Important Dates:

  • December 14th - All school picture (make sure to wear your designed shirt color)

  • December 19th - Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.

  • December 21st - Compassion donations due!

  • December 21st - Christmas Party!

  • December 22nd-January 2nd - Christmas Break!

Last Week:

6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders continued reading DGDP chapters 12-15, as well as completing some journal prompts and comprehension questions and their Section 3 Reading Strategies packet. On Friday, the students took a VERY easy quiz on text features, which ended our yearly review. They also took a short quiz on DGDP chapters 9-15 and did VERY WELL! Overall, I have been very impressed with how well the students have been comprehending DGDP. This coming week, the students will receive their last Reading Strategies packet (Section 4). In grammar, we continued to review pronouns. NOTE: The chapter 4 grammar test will be this Wednesday!

7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders officially began their poetry/figurative language unit. So far, we have discussed: poem characteristics and structure, topic & theme, alliteration, and onomatopoeia. Some of the activities we did with those lessons included reading "Casey at Bat" and "The Mending Wall", as well as making alliteration advertisements and an onomatopoeia comic strip. The students will continue to work on their comic strips this coming week. On Thursday, the students did some MAP testing practice, working briefly with prefixes and suffixes. In grammar, we continued to review pronouns. NOTE: The chapter 4 grammar test will be this Wednesday!

8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders received their Latin/Greek roots list 11, and took a quiz on Friday. On Tuesday, I discussed some of the assignments that will go along with TBT, such as an artistic quote journal and figurative language prompts, and then we started reading TBT! So far, we have accomplished the prologue-chapter 3 and it appears that the students are enjoying it so far :) On Thursday, the students did some MAP testing practice, working briefly with homophones and homographs. In grammar, the students took their chapter 4 grammar test. This week, we will continue to read TBT.

ALL ~ Book trailers are due in 3 weeks!

Have a wonderful week!

Grace
