Week 18

HAPPY MONDAY!

First of all, congratulations to ALL of our participants in this past weekend's Holiday Tournament. It was a blast watching the Poms perform, as well as all of the basketball teams play their hearts out. It was also a joy seeing some of the former FIL students in the stands, supporting their forever Wildcats team, which truly shows how blessed and supported we are here at FIL! As a teacher, it is such an honor to teach all of the middle schoolers, and their God-pleasing attitudes out on the court is just so powerful and contagious. Today, it will be our goal to stay awake after the busy weekend... wish us luck! :)

Important Dates:

  • January 12th - End of 2nd Quarter & early dismissal at 11:10 a.m.

  • January 16th - Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.

  • January 21st-27th - National Lutheran School Week!

  • January 30th - Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.

Last Week:

6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders started presenting their very first book trailers and I was SOOOOO impressed! Never have I had such good book trailers from 6th graders; it just shows how talented theses children are :) We will be finishing those up this week. The rest of the week, the 6th graders were assigned and worked on their final project for DGDP (see rubric in ELA folder in Google Drive). The students began working on these projects Thursday and Friday, and will have all of this week as well to work on the project in class. The final project will be due this coming Thursday (January 11th).

7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders started presenting their book trailers for 2nd quarter and they have been outstanding so far! Definitely some of the best book trailers I have seen in my teaching career :) We will be finishing those up this week. The rest of the week, we continued with our poetry unit, discussing hyperboles and idioms, as well as reviewing everything we learned before Christmas break. On Friday, the students and I took everything we knew about figurative language and started analyzing poems (refer to Poetry Analysis Handout). Today (Monday), the students will finish analyzing the poems in their packets, which will be the last "lesson" of our unit. This week, we will fill out a study guide for the poetry test (Tuesday), review as a class (Wednesday), and then take the final poetry test on THURSDAY! As long as the students study their study guide and the poetry analysis handout, the test should be pretty easy for them.

8th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders started presenting their book trailers for 2nd quarter and they have been outstanding so far! Definitely some of the best book trailers I have seen in my teaching career :) We will be finishing those up this week. The rest of the week was spent reviewing what we had read in TBT before Christmas break and reading Part 3 of TBT. This week, the students will be taking a quiz on Part 3, do a few assignments to go along with that, and then read Part 4.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a blessed New Year! Happy 2018 and Epiphany!

Grace
