Week 22

Good morning,

I hope everyone had a good Super-Bowl Sunday! Nothing like watching TV and eating delicious food with friends :) Even though I was rooting for neither team (not a Patriot's fan, and the Eagles beating the Vikings was a hard blow in itself), it was still a great game! And that half-time show?! Glorious :)

It's also nice to see that we have most of our students back from the "plague"... even though I fear that I may be getting it now myself... Sigh. Hopefully we can ALL stay healthy this week and get all those students who missed work, caught up!

Important Events:

  • February 12-15th - Box Top collection

  • February 13th - Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.

  • February 15th - Box Top clipping party in Mrs. Valdez' room after school

  • February 15th - Mid-quarter

  • February 16-19th - No school!

  • February 20th - 3rd Quarter book needs to be finished!

  • February 27th - Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.

Last Week:

6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders worked on an essay titled: "Be Someone's Batman," which was based off of the BMX biker Matt Wilhelm's message that we heard during NLSW. It was awesome reading the essays and seeing each student's take on the topic. Also, congrats to Mary Stroebel for winning the contest for her class! The rest of the week, the 6th graders continued reading their literature circle books and working with their groups to complete task cards and jobs from their Literature Circle packets. It has been fun seeing the enthusiasm from the students about their novels so far! On Wednesday, the students took their Chapter 5 grammar test and practiced using context clues to prepare for the spring MAP testing. For Genius Hour, the students finished up their project proposals and then started working on the research portion of the project. Note: I have had many students asking when the project is due. Currently, there is NO due date because we work on it a little bit each week. Also, please know that the students are NOT supposed to do the work at home (this is solely an in-school project).

7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders worked on an essay titled: "Be Someone's Batman," which was based off of the BMX biker Matt Wilhelm's message that we heard during NLSW. It was awesome reading the essays and seeing each student's take on the topic. Also, congrats to Izzy Gitzlaff for winning the contest for her class! The rest of the week, the students continued to read Crispin and complete some comprehension questions for the section that they read. On Friday, the students took a short quiz over what they've read so far in the book, and they did very well!! In grammar, the 7th graders completed some practice sentences practicing more with conjunctions. Note: there will be a test over Chapter 5 on WEDNESDAY!

8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders worked on an essay titled: "Be Someone's Batman," which was based off of the BMX biker Matt Wilhelm's message that we heard during NLSW. It was awesome reading the essays and seeing each student's take on the topic. Also, congrats to Wesley Stroebel for winning the contest for his class! The rest of the week, the students finished reading Part 5 of TBT with their small groups. On Wednesday, they took a grammar test on Chapter 5, and then did a quick activity with making predictions for the rest of TBT. On Thursday, the students and I played some review games for the Quarter 2 Roots Test (which they all did super well on!!), and then the students took the test on Friday.

ALL ~ Just a reminder that the students have 16 days left to finish reading their Quarter 3 book for their book project. Remember that if a student finishes before February 20th, they should be starting on their project!

Have a blessed week! Stay healthy!

Grace
