Gooooooood morning!
It's a brand new week, I'm feeling MUCH better (as well as the kids), and it's a 4-day week! Woo! I do, however, have a lot of reminders, so just a heads up now...
Box top collection is this week! Therefore, please be sending in Box Tops Monday-Thursday of this week! The Student Council and I really appreciate all of the box tops, and it really helps our school be able to do some fun things!
The students have just 9 days to finish reading their 3rd quarter book (due next Tuesday). I will be checking in with each student and asking them to tell me a quick something about their book.
If any student is going to be using a book board for their final project, they can get one from me (colors may be limited) OR buy them from any local craft store, Target, Shopko, etc.
Valentine's Day parties are on Wednesday! Please have your child bring their party items to school on Wednesday (or earlier if they do not perish) and if possible, have them keep them in their homeroom. Otherwise there will be food ALL over the place in my classroom, haha. Again, thank you for allowing your child to have a party. They are all super excited :)
I think that's all of my reminders...?

Last Week:
6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders worked on a Monday Meditation for me (due today). They have been doing exceptionally well on these this year! I am very proud :) The rest of the week was dedicated to reading in Literature circles, completing task cards, and completing another job in their job packet. For genius hour, the students continued working on finding research for their author, and filled out a learning log on what they had learned/researched that day. In grammar, the students started learning about interjections.
7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders did a fun activity with Crispin where they had to draw a picture of one of the characters (Bear) using evidence from the text. This class is definitely one of my more artistic ones, which always makes projects like this fun! The rest of the week, the students and I continued to read Crispin, analyze some figurative language from the text, and then complete a set of comprehension questions. In grammar, the students took their Chapter 5 grammar test (this was one of the best tests of the year!).
8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders practiced using Latin/Greek roots list 16 and took a quiz on Friday. The rest of the week, the students and I worked through Part 6 of TBT. When finished, the students participated in their first Socratic Discussion (see theory/strategy here: https://www.facinghistory.org/resource-library/teaching-strategies/socratic-seminar). This is a strategy that the students will use many times in high school, as well as college. It was fun watching the students lead the discussion and invite their peers to discuss the text, rather than myself. On Thursday and Friday, the 8th graders then did a thorough webquest on Auschwitz - we will discuss it today as a class. In grammar, the students started learning about interjections.
Have a wonderful week!
