Weeks 29 & 30

Happy bright and sunny Monday morning!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend! While it was a little chilly, it was nice to see the sunshine! We're so close to spring I can feel it!! However, I do see some snow in the near forecast... hopefully we don't have snow on Easter!

Also, CONGRATULATIONS to our Red Team girls at the National Tournament. To summarize their journey, I would like to quote assistant coach, Gary Mueller, as he said it best: "So Nationals is over. We lost to the National Champs. Only team to hold them under 40 points. They scored only 27 against us. They beat every team by double digits except us. We beat a tough Iowa team. And lost a heart breaker to the consolation runner-ups from San Antonio. But the best part of the weekend didn't happen on the court. It was seeing the closeness of the girls in between games. The joy and camaraderie they shared. The fun and tears. And even after the last game, seeing them want to be together in everything they did, was so awesome." I am so proud of these girls :

NOTE: This blog post is going to be for last week and this week as well; therefore, you will not be getting one next week because of Easter break! Yay! The students and I am DEFINITELY looking forward to having a little time to rest up before we run dead-on into the last months of school :)

With that being said...

Important Dates:

  • March 29th - April 8th - Spring break!

  • April 10th - Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.

  • April 24th - Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.

  • April 27th - Mid Quarter

Last/This Week:

6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders continued working on their literature circle projects/presentations, and then presented their projects on Thursday and Friday. It was fun to see the students work together for this entire unit. Literature circles definitely teach students how to work together, and it shows both me and them classmates who they work together well with. In grammar, the students started chapter 8, which is on possessive pronoun adjectives (PNAs as we call them). We will continue to work with them this week. Today and Tuesday, the students will be doing a webquest in preparation for reading The Cay. This will be our very last unit of the school year! Boy has time flown!

7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders filled out their Crispin study guide in preparation for their Crispin test. We played a very riveting review game of Grudgeball on Wednesday, and then the students took their test on Thursday. In grammar, the students continued working with helping verbs and inverted vs. natural order sentences. This week on Monday and Tuesday, the 7th graders will watch "Wonder" as they earned their movie day for my class. I will then spend the rest of the short week introducing our last unit of the year: SPEECH! This is definitely one of my favorite units to teach, and while the students are a little hesitant at first, they always grow to love it pretty quickly!

8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders were introduced to their final unit of 8th grade: the Exceptionalities Research Paper. I spent Tuesday and Wednesday, teaching them about how to research and use notecards, and then they started researching on Thursday and Friday. We will spend all of this week researching as well. Please note that the next due date for them will be immediately when they get back from spring break; April 9th, the students are to present me with at least 4 sources that they will be/are using for their project. 2 of these resources must be physical sources (books, personal interviews, magazine, newspaper, medical journal, etc.), and the other 2 can be internet sources. That being said, I have told the students that going to the library to get the 2 physical sources over spring break is a great use of time! Also, because we do most work in class, there will be no need to work on anything else regarding the research paper over break. Break is for resting, not working :) In grammar, the students are learning about PNAs (possessive pronoun adjectives).

ALL ~ The 6th and 7th graders have signed up for book talks/trailers for 4th quarter. Please be encouraging your child to read (and obviously I will too, haha).

Thank you for all that you do!

God's blessings and have a blessed Easter!

Grace
