Week 32

Happy snowy Monday...

It's times like these where one tries to be thankful, but when it's so cold and snowy outside, IN THE MIDDLE OF APRIL, it's kinda hard... But hopefully everybody had a safe weekend and didn't spend too much time outside shoveling.

On that note...

Important Dates:

  • April 24th - Student Council Meeting @ 7:05 a.m.

  • April 27th - Mid-Quarter

  • May 4th - Spring Musical "Sailor's Bible" @ 6:30 p.m. in the church

  • May 8th - Student Council Meeting @ 7:05 a.m.

Last Week:

6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders met with me individually and we went over their MAP scores from the fall and then set some goals for the upcoming test. I look forward to seeing the scores when they return! On Tuesday, the students and I started reading The Cay by Theodore Taylor. It's a fun story about WWII, shipwreck, survival, and friendship. As a class, we read chapters 1-3 together, and did some accompanying activities such as comprehension questions and a Seesaw exit slip. On Friday, the students did Genius Hour where they continued to work on their author research projects. This coming Friday during Genius Hour, all of the students should be working towards their final projects, thus finishing with the research portion. In grammar, the 6th graders and I reviewed helping verbs, inverted vs. natural order, and PNAs, and then they took their chapter 8 grammar test.

7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders and I went over their MAP scores from the fall and then set some goals for the upcoming test. We talked about what each test section meant and how to set a goal for the area that they struggled with as well. Furthermore, I look forward to seeing the scores when they return! I also introduced the students to Impromptu speeches on Monday, and then the students did their impromptu speeches on Tuesday and Wednesday. It was definitely the best year for impromptu speeches yet! On Thursday, I talked about informative speeches, how to research and set one up, and then the students started brainstorming topics for their speeches. We then picked topics on Friday and started researching. We will spend all of this week preparing for informative speeches, and then start giving speeches Tuesday, April, 24th-27th. In grammar, the students and I reviewed helping verbs, inverted vs. natural order, and PNAs (possessive pronoun adjectives). Chapter 8 grammar test will be NEXT MONDAY!

8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders and I went over their MAP scores from the fall and then set some goals for the upcoming test. We talked about what each test section meant and how to set a goal for the area that they struggled with as well. Furthermore, I look forward to seeing the scores when they return! The rest of the week was spent continuing to research for their research papers. Notecards were due Friday (all turned them in!), and today we will be starting to write outlines. The next due date is going to be this coming Friday (Outlines due: April 20th at the beginning of class). In grammar, the students and I reviewed helping verbs, inverted vs. natural order, and PNAs (possessive pronoun adjectives). Chapter 8 grammar test will be THIS WEDNESDAY!

All ~ Don't forget that 6th and 7th graders have book talks/trailers due starting Wednesday, May 16th! 8th graders just need to read and turn a book in to me by the last day of school.

Have a wonderful week! Stay warm and dry!

34 school days left until summer break! (hopefully there won't be any more snow!)

Grace
