Week 33

Happy spring morning!!

It's FINALLY spring! Thank goodness! I hope you all were able to go outside sometime this weekend and soak up some of that vitamin D. I tried taking Daisy for a few walks, and she and I both loved the weather. AND it's supposed to be like this all week! YAY SPRING!

In regards to book talks/book trailers, I wanted to include the student presentation dates for parents (I know I would want to know when my child went so I could remind them, haha). Dates are as follows:

  • Wednesday, May 16th: Ben Valdez, Jae Fitting, Katie Spencer, Jenny Spencer, Carli Klenz, Jeff Koepke, Katelyn Michels, Ben Dobberfuhl, and Cia Hajdu.

ALSO: Any students that are in the spring musical need to try and be at all of the practices after school from now on. I understand that they have sports after school and meets, but if a student needs to be gone, that student needs to let me or Mrs. Roeske know so we can plan accordingly.

Phew, I think that's all!

  • April 27th - Mid Quarter

  • May 4th - Spring Musical @ 6:30 p.m.

Last Week:

6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders spent the entire week continuing to read The Cay. As some accompanying activities, we also discussed character traits of 2 of the main characters, as well as the students completing some comprehension questions. On Friday, the students worked on their Genius Hour projects. I'm thinking that we want those projects to be completed by the end of April so that we can start wrapping that activity up and get ready for the end of the school year! In grammar, the students started Chapter 9, which covers direct objects and pattern 2.

7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders signed up for their first professional speech (informative), and completed research on their topics. The rest of the week, we discussed the format of an informative speech, prepared the outline of the speeches, and worked on visual aids. It is my hope that over the weekend, the students started practicing their speeches because we start presenting tomorrow! Speech dates are listed below... In grammar, the students continued practicing with PNAs and helping verbs, and will be taking their Chapter 8 test today!

  • Tuesday, April 24th: Phinehas, Mason, Jeff, Katelyn, Cia, Jayden, Jacob I., and Zoe.

  • Wednesday, April 25th: Lauren, Lydia, Chloe, Izzy, Matthew, Ruby, Mark, Natalie, Grady, and Caleb.

  • Thursday, April 26th: Shea, Ellie, Kassidy, Madeline, Carli, Addi, Andrew, Jacob H., Amber, and Jace.

  • Friday, April 27th: John, Alex, Pearse, Parker, Mariah, Reagan, Jorja, Reid, Cole, and Ben.

8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders received their roots list 23 and then took their quiz on Friday. Monday, I taught the students how to create a detailed outline, and then the students worked on those outlines in class up through Thursday. On Friday, the students learned how to do in-text citations, we discussed avoiding plagiarism, and then went over the rough draft. Next due date (rough draft) will be on May 7th. In grammar, the students took their Chapter 8 grammar test.

Have a wonderful week!

Grace
