Week 4

Happy Monday!

We're a month into school already! Wowza! Boy does time fly when you're having fun :P The students have started off great so far, we have reached our first official Live School prize, and believe it or not, we're only 1 month away from Book Talks! The only bad part is that the mosquitoes are awful and it's going to be a REALLY hot day...

With all of that randomness out of the way, haha...

Important Dates:

  • September 18th - Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.

  • September 26th - School Pictures

  • September 28th - Mid-Quarter

  • October 2nd - Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.\

  • October 8-11th - Box Top Collection

  • October 11th - Box Top Clipping Party after school (for all SC members!)

  • October 15th - Book Talks begin!

Last Week:

6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders completed their 2nd Monday Mediation for the school year (remember, all Monday Meditations are assigned Monday and then due the following Monday). We then spent Monday through Wednesday working on/doing activities with Author's Purpose. Thursday and Friday, we discussed Drawing Conclusions, and will finish up with that today during school. In grammar, the students reviewed prepositional phrases and did a quick worksheet. Just a heads up, the students will be taking their first grammar test on Wednesday.

7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders completed their 2nd Monday Mediation for the school year (remember, all Monday Meditations are assigned Monday and then due the following Monday; and this year, the students are writing 5-7 sentences per paragraph). The rest of the week, we spent starting to read The Giver, and completing some accompanying activities. So far, it appears that the students are really enjoying The Giver, and I hope that that excitement continues throughout the rest of the unit :) In grammar, the students and I discussed compound subjects and predicates, and then did a worksheet to practice the skills.

8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders worked with and were quizzed on list 3 of Latin/Greek roots. I have been very impressed with the involvement and leadership in these lessons as well as the scores on the quizzes! The rest of the week, we finished up the "What's In a Name?" Essays by working on the title page, bibliography page, peer editing, and the visual representation of the students' names. The final draft was due today, and it is my plan to start grading those as soon as possible! This week, we will begin brainstorming and working on outlines for this year's Patriot's Pen Essay (final essay due by October 31st). In grammar, the students and I discussed compound subjects and predicates, and then did a worksheet to practice the skills.

Have a wonderful week!

Grace
