Good morning and Happy Red Ribbon Week!
Wowza, this is a crazy week! With all the dress up days and the assembly and the pep rally AND the end of the quarter on Friday, how can someone keep it all straight?! My calendar is definitely all over the place... hopefully I don't forget anything... :{
Anyway, here is my attempt at keeping it all straight:
1) Just a reminder that Book Orders are due THIS FRIDAY! I know I have already had one order submitted and I believe there are a few more coming in. If you are wanting to order, remember that you can either fill out the paper form and make checks out to Scholastic Books and then have your child hand it in to me, OR you can order online. Just make sure to use my classroom code: PBKZC so that our classroom can earn rewards!
2) Dress up days this week for Red Ribbon Week are as follows:
Monday: Red Day
Tuesday: Crazy clothes day
Wednesday: Favorite sports team/FIL gear
Thursday: PJ Day
Friday: Costume/black and orange day
3) Don't forget to be signing up for conferences next week Tuesday and Wednesday! Sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C45AAA822A0FA7-middle4
4) The Student Council sponsored Leaf Raking is this Friday as well. If your child is wanting to attend read the information below:
Sign-up on Facts/RenWeb/ParentsWeb. Click on Web Forms, then Leaf Raking Permission. Select the Leaf Raking (Grades 5-6-7-8) Permission form behind your child’s name and click Save when you are finished. This activity counts for a Living Stone, as well! Remember to bring a bag lunch, drink, and rake! Parent drivers are needed!
I think that's everything... phew!
Important Dates:
October 23rd - Assembly at CHS @ 8:55 a.m.
October 26 - End of quarter/Leaf Raking/early dismissal/book orders due
October 30-31st - Parent/Teacher Conferences
November 1-2nd - No school!
Last Week
6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders started presenting their book talks, and let me tell you, for their first book talks, they are FANTASTIC! Definitely my best 6th grade book talks yet! Yay! We will be finishing up with those book talks this week. The rest of the week was spent getting prepared for our first novel study: Drums, Girls, & Dangerous Pie (DGDP). In small groups, the 6th graders researched a type of drum and created a poster presenting their findings. On Thursday, the students then presented their posters to the class (see pictures on Seesaw!). On Friday, I passed out the books to the students and then they completed a previewing activity about the book. In grammar, the students took their Chapter 5 Test (grades posted both on RenWeb AND Seesaw). Note: if your child got a C or below, I attached a corrections sheet to their test. This sheet allows the student to fix their errors for some extra points back on their test. They are also required to answer why they didn't do well and then have you, their guardian, sign the sheet. Corrections are due THIS Wednesday, October 24th. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me!
7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders started presenting their book talks, and are doing fabulous! It's always fun watching the kids' effort and creativity grow over the years :) We will be finishing up with those book talks this week. The rest of the week was spent on our annual Patriot's Pen Essay contest. As a class, we brainstormed about this year's topic, "Why I Honor the American Flag," worked on and completed the essay outlines, and actually started writing the essays on Friday. The students will have today in class to work on their essays, and then we will format, edit, and submit this week already! In Shurley Grammar, the students took their Chapter 5 Test (grades posted both on RenWeb AND Seesaw). In advanced grammar, we did more practice with adjectival and adverbial prepositional phrases. The students also had the opportunity to add some extra credit points onto their previous worksheet :)
8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders started presenting their book talks, and are doing fabulous! It's always fun watching the kids' effort and creativity grow over the years :) We will be finishing up with those book talks this week. On Monday, the students finished up their researching for their papers, and then turned in their 25-30 note cards on Tuesday. The rest of the week was spent working on outlines, which were due TODAY! This week, the students will learn about how to create in-text citations, how to avoid plagiarism, and then actually start writing their rough drafts! The next due date will be November 5th, when the rough drafts are due! In advanced grammar, we did more practice with adjectival and adverbial prepositional phrases. The students also had the opportunity to add some extra credit points onto their previous worksheet :)
Have a great week!
