Hola!
Happy November 12th and a late Veterans' Day!
I hope you had a great weekend and didn't freeze too much (it's definitely getting chilly out!). :)
I don't have any big announcements other than the middle schoolers signed up for book trailers last Friday. Book trailers are different than book talks in that the students will be making a trailer for a book instead of a presentation. The rubric can be found in their LA folder in Google Drive and has all the requirements and instructions, as well as some links to examples and possible editing programs. I also passed out an optional planning calendar that the students can use to help them stay on task (if they so choose); it was built in a way that if the students follow the due dates, they would not need to work on their book trailer over Christmas break. For 7th and 8th graders, the requirements have not changed from last year. Presentations will begin immediately when we get back from Christmas break, January 3rd. Dates are as follows:
Thursday, January 3rd: Lily Everts, Joe Twietmeyer, Katie Spencer, Jenny Spencer, Erika Grob, CJ Hajdu, Matthew Fox, Katelyn Michels, Chloe Kelm, John Koepke
Friday, January 4th: Josie Witte, Sophia Steffen, Arielle Lamm, Aria Wessel, Abby Napoleon, Mary Stroebel, Izzy Duckert, Dawson Froemming, Lauren Helm, Natalie Newth, Grady Cashin, Reagan Pahl, Jeff Koepke, Caleb Kubiak
Monday, January 7th: Jack Vravick, Charlie Schmelzer, Zach Brown, Elliot Wagner, Lydia Rutkowski, Zoe Mueller, Alex Torres, Mason Everts
Tuesday, January 8th: Sam Eisenhauer, Trista Sheer, Gabi Weyde, Evan Feiertag, Nina Mlodzik, Sarah Prom, Jasmin Kraus, Izzy Gitzlaff, Ruby Broehm, Amber Price, Carli Klenz, Mariah Reynolds, Madeline Fox
Wednesday, January 9th: Elijah Wiley, Christian Remm, Denny Oechsner, Addie Wenthold, Jack Poellot, Ben Valdez, Kenzie Noffke, Kassidy Goethel, Jacob Helm, Jacob Ives, Andrew Groppe, Phinehas Wiley, Reid McGraw

Last Week:
6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders completed their 2nd Monday Meditation of the 2nd quarter! Woo! The rest of the week was spent continuing to read chapters 6-7 of DGDP and work with it through some accompanying activities: some journal prompts and comprehension questions. We also as a class discussed character traits and then the students did a character drawing of one of the characters from DGDP (which was due today!). Also, on Monday, the students handed in their Section 1 Reading Strategies packet; their 2nd one for Section 2 will be due THIS Wednesday. In grammar, the students worked with helping verbs and did a worksheet.
7th Grade ~ With the 7th graders gone for most of last week for Outdoor Ed (which they seemed to have really enjoyed!), we did not do very much. When the students returned, they continued to work on their utopia projects. Please note that those projects will be due THIS FRIDAY!
8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders worked with list 9 of their Latin/Greek roots and took a quiz on Friday. The rest of the week was dedicated to finishing up with their Exceptionalities Research Papers: peer editing stations, making corrections, completing a title page, working on a works cited page, and hammering out final details. The first due date to get 10 extra credit points was Friday, and I was pleased to see that over half of the 8th graders took advantage of that due date! Yay! The next due date to turn in the paper was today for 5 extra credit points, and the very last day to turn in the papers is Friday. In grammar, the students reviewed the 4 different types of sentences as well as the difference between a simple and complex sentence. The students also did a worksheet to practice the skills.
Have a great week!
