Happy Monday!! Only 1 week away from Christmas!!
I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. I know I'm definitely starting to feel the stress of getting all my Christmas plans and presents ready. Nothing like waiting until the last minute to get everything set and ready to go, haha.
A big thanks to all of those parents who helped make The Nutcracker field trip a success. I honestly feel like most of the students actually enjoyed the ballet (even if they won't admit it, haha).
Do know that I will combing last week and this week's blog post because of Christmas break! So, don't be looking for one next week... I'll be enjoying the chilly, snowy weather of Minnesota with my family :)
Important Events:
December 18th - Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.
December 21st - Compassion Donations due/bowling at Circle B/Christmas parties!
December 22nd-January 3rd - Christmas break!
January 4th - Book trailers begin!
Last Week AND This Week:
6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders spent the week discussing The Nutcracker in preparation for the ballet, so of course I had the students do a Nutcracker-themed Monday Meditation. On Monday, I explained the DGDP final project (creating a interactive poster on Glogster), and then the students spent all week working on it. On Friday, the 6th graders presented their projects to the class and did very well! You can check out Seesaw for your child's project. In grammar, the students started working with pattern 2, which involves direct objects. This week, the students will have some time to work on their book trailers (which are due immediately when we get back from Christmas break) and we'll discuss the next unit when they get back: literature circles! No grammar this week!
7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders spent the week discussing The Nutcracker in preparation for the ballet, so of course I had the students do a Nutcracker-themed Monday Meditation. The rest of the week, we discussed 5 new figurative language elements: similes, metaphors, personification, hyperbole, and idioms. In advanced grammar, the students worked with adverb clauses and did a worksheet. There was no Shurley grammar lesson. This week, the 7th graders will play some figurative language games to practice the skills they have learned throughout this unit. No grammar this week!
8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders received list 14 of their Latin/Greek roots and took their quiz on Friday. Because of The Nutcracker, we were not able to practice with the roots as much as I would liked to have, but they all did very well! Yay! On Monday, the students did a journal entry about Part 1 of TBT on Seesaw, as well as completing 5 thought-provoking questions about what has happen so far in the novel. As a class, we read Part 2 of TBT, and the students then took a quiz on that reading on Friday. In grammar, the students worked with infinitives and infinitive phrases and did a worksheet. This week, the 8th graders will get list 15 for Latin/Greek roots and be taking their quiz THURSDAY because of Christmas parties on Friday. Throughout the week, the students and I will read Part 3 of TBT, and complete a short writing assignment. No grammar this week!
If I don't hear from any of you or see you, have a FABULOUS Christmas!
Merry Christmas to all!
