Happy Epiphany! The Wise Men were always some of my favorite people in the Christmas Story and I always looked forward to placing them in the manger scene at my parent's house as Epiphany arrived. Can you imagine traveling that far to see Jesus? What a remarkable event in the story of our Lord.
And speaking of Wise Men... if you're looking for a HILARIOUS interpretation of the Christmas Story, here is a link that we watched in chapel that just cracks me up every time I see it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suowe2czxcA. Enjoy :)
I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas! I know it flew by and was way too short for me! But it was fun seeing the kids after break and hearing about their holiday :)
We have started back up and now time is going to fly! Book trailers have started and believe it or not, the end of Quarter 2 is on Friday! Wowza! Also note that Friday we will be going to the "Elf" production at CHS, so if you haven't signed that permission slip, it is in the Tuesday Note!

Last Week AND This Week:
6th Grade ~ Last week, we started presenting book trailers, and may I just say, the first book trailers by the 6th graders have been very impressive thus far! I am always so shocked at how well these kids are at using technology! I then introduced our next unit of Literature Circles to the students by doing a "Book Tasting". I like to set up the classroom like a restaurant and let the students get a "taste" of different books that they can read in small groups (check out Seesaw for our Book Tasting). The students then rate the books they are interested in and I try and give them their top choices. For the next month, the students will be reading these books in their literature circles and doing some accompanying activities like comprehensive jobs and group task cards. This week, we will finish up book trailers and continue reading in literature circles. In grammar, the students will continue working with pattern 2 and direct objects, as well as a do a worksheet.
7th Grade ~ Last week, we started presenting book trailers and they're looking great so far! We will continue with those this week and finish them up on Friday. Because it has been awhile since we worked with our figurative language elements, we did a quick review last Thursday, and then will spend the rest of this week applying those elements and skills to analyze different poems. Just a heads up that the students will be taking a test on the figurative language elements NEXT TUESDAY. In Shurley grammar, we will start working with natural vs. inverted word order sentences and do a worksheet. In advanced grammar this week, we will be reviewing what we've learned so far in this unit as a refresher from before Christmas.
8th Grade ~ Last week, we started presenting book trailers and they're looking great so far! We will continue with those this week and finish them up on Friday. Then, to review what had been read in TBT before break, the students did a journal prompt on Seesaw, answered some comprehension questions with partners, and then took a quiz on Part 3. This week, we will be reading Part 4 of TBT. In grammar, we will be reviewing what we've learned so far in this unit as a refresher from before Christmas.
Have a great week!
