Happy TUESDAY!
Boy, was it nice to sit around with Daisy all day yesterday and do nothing (apologies to anyone who had to work...). However... while it was nice, I do kind of wish that we had school. I'm getting tired of all this time off! I like to keep busy and going to work is enjoyable for me, so... I'm thankful to be back today :) But I also did enjoy chilling with Daisy. Picture below is of our day :)
My biggest announcement is that we are 3 WEEKS FROM THE BEGINNING OF BOOK PROJECT PRESENTATIONS! Most students are almost done with their books/starting on their projects, but there are still a few that are falling behind. If you could be so kind as to check with your child about their project that would be great. I have done so at school, but an extra reminder at home is always helpful :) If you are in need of the rubric, please see your child's LA folder on Google Drive.
Also, so much thanks to all those who turned in Box Tops last week! The 2nd collection is always lower than the 1st, but everything helps! And my homeroom is VERY thankful, because we won the pizza party! (I promise I didn't cheat!). :)
Important Events:
February 26th - Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.
March 5th - Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.
March 11-19th - Book Project presentations
Last Week:
6th Grade ~ Last week, the students worked on their 2019 Inspirational writing prompt instead of a Monday Meditation. You will be able to read these prompts at the end of the school year on the published website. Link will be sent out at the end of the year! On Monday, the students also presented their Literature Circle projects (you can see Seesaw for projects and rubrics). I then explained the next unit that the students will be doing in ELA: a decade project! Each student has been paired up with a partner(s) and assigned a decade between 1930-1990. For this project, they will research the decade (completed last week and due today), read a book taking place in that decade (starting this week), and then create a project incorporating the information that they learned from both the research and book. I have no idea when the project will be due (we'll play it by ear based on time to read books and create projects), but am very excited about this project! In grammar, the 6th graders took their Chapter 10 Test. Grades will be posted early this week (both on Renweb AND Seesaw)!
7th Grade ~ Last week, the students worked on their 2019 Inspirational writing prompt instead of a Monday Meditation. You will be able to read these prompts at the end of the school year on the published website. Link will be sent out at the end of the year! On Monday, the students and I finished reading chapter 4 and completed the 10 Commandment handout, and then on Tuesday, the students read chapter 5 in small groups. Friday (and part of today), the students completed some stations that had them analyze the famous poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay" which The Outsiders is very much based on. We will discuss the poem's meaning today and then continue reading the book. In Shurley grammar, the students continued to work with direct objects and did a worksheet. In advanced grammar, the students worked with gerunds and did a worksheet.
8th Grade ~ Last week, the students worked on their 2019 Inspirational writing prompt. You will be able to read these prompts at the end of the school year on the published website. Link will be sent out at the end of the year! On Monday, the students were given list 19 of their Latin/Greek roots and took their quiz Friday. The rest of the week, the students read Part 7 of the The Book Thief, as well as completing a journal prompt on Seesaw. In grammar, the students worked on fragments, run-ons, comma splices, and ramble-on sentences. NOTE: they will be receiving their unit 2 study guide this week, and then will be taking their unit 2 grammar test NEXT WEDNESDAY!
Have a great week!
