Week 26

Happy Monday!

It feels like forever since we've had a full week of school (hopefully it stays that way... there's a lot of snow forecast for this week!). It's also supposed to be VERY cold this week! Make sure to keep warm and drink lots of Hot Chocolate :)

Please consider heading out to support our FIL basketball teams this weekend in the State Tournament! Both teams are seeded really well and have a good shot at heading to Nationals as well! This weekend's schedule can be found here: Also, do note that we are 2 WEEKS away from starting 3rd quarter book project presentations! Please continue to encourage your child to work on their projects. This is the biggest grade of the quarter and I want them all to do well! The project rubric and options can be located in your child's Google Drive Language Arts folder, and is titled " 3rd Quarter Hands-On Project".

Important Dates:

February 26th - Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.

March 5th - Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.

March 11-19th - 3rd Quarter Hands-On project presentations

Last Week:

6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders did NOT have a Monday Meditation. Most of the week was spent reading their decade books with their partners/small groups. Throughout the week, they also filled out a document called a "Learning Log", which has them answer what they learned from their books and where they are in their book. On Thursday, the students also did a close reading lesson with me. In grammar, we started chapter 11 which is on Pattern 3 (they were oh, so thrilled... haha) and did a worksheet.

7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders did NOT have a Monday Meditation. On Tuesday, the students finished their stations on the Robert Frost poem, "Nothing Gold Can Stay," and then we discussed it's meaning as a class. Throughout the week, the students also read chapters 6 and 7 of The Outsiders, as well as completed some comprehension questions, a short quiz, and an activity on heroes. In Shurley grammar, the students continued to work with direct objects and did a worksheet. In advanced grammar, the students completed their last lesson in Unit 2 on different types of sentences, and also did a worksheet to practice. NOTE: this week, the advanced students will review unit 2 via a study guide, and then their Unit 2 test will be NEXT WEEK WEDNESDAY!

8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders did NOT have a Latin/Greek roots list. As a class, we read Part 8 of The Book Thief, and completed some accompanying comprehensive activities: a Seesaw exit slip, a partner Socratic discussion on Seesaw, and an Instagram Post (on paper). This week, we are REALLY going to push through and read both Parts 9 and 10 of TBT. Next Monday, we will finish the book! This week I will also be passing out a permission slip to watch TBT movie because it is rated PG-13 for very minor violence and language. Please sign this and have your child return it to me no later than next Monday! In grammar, the students reviewed for Unit 2 via a study guide. NOTE: the 8th graders will be taking a test over Unit 2 THIS WEDNESDAY! I have spoken with the students that this is a harder test and that they should be asking me ANY questions they have about the content on the test. I also highly suggest that they at least take 15 minutes to "study" their study guide before taking the test on Wednesday.

Have a great week! Hope to see you at the State Basketball Tournament this weekend!

Grace
