Week 27

Good morning and happy CHILLY Monday!

First and foremost, I wanted to thank ALL those who came out to support our Girls' and Boys' basketball teams this weekend at the State Tournament. I know that the kids were upset with the places that they got, but we are all still SO proud of how they played and how they represented FIL. It's wonderful to see such sportsmanship and positivity out on the court, even if things are not going the way we want. I for one am SO proud of the boys and girls and could not be happier with their results. They put their hearts out on the court and showed their God-given basketball skills. I have loved watching these kids play the last few years and cannot wait to support them while they play at Nationals. So, so proud to be a Wildcat. Thank you for raising such incredible kids <3

Last Week:

6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders worked on a Monday Mediation that was due today. The rest of the week, they continued to read their decade book with their partners. Note: these books are to be finished when they come to class this Friday. Most of the students are really close to finishing, if not finished already! We will then start discussing the decade project for the next step of the unit on Friday. In grammar, the students continued to work with Pattern 3 and indirect objects, as well as doing a worksheet to practice.

7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders worked on a Monday Meditation that was due today. On Monday, we talked about the hero activity that they did the previous week, and how they felt that they could be a hero in a person's life. Throughout the week, the students also read chapters 8-9 of The Outsiders. On Thursday, the students did an individual close reading activity to show me what they understand about analyzing a text. They also spent Thursday and Friday working on a letter/devotion to one of the characters in The Outsiders. This letter was due today. In Shurley grammar, we started chapter 10, which includes deciding the difference between Pattern 1 and Pattern 2, as well as completing a worksheet to practice. In advanced grammar, the students and I reviewed all that we have talked about in Unit 2 via a study guide. Please note that the students will be taking a test on Unit 2 THIS WEDNESDAY! I highly suggest that the students take some time and look over their study guide Tuesday night as this test is going to be more difficult. I also encourage the students to spend the next few days asking ANY questions they may have on topics that will be on the test. Study guides will be turned in Wednesday with the test for some extra credit points.

8th Grade ~ Last week, the students worked with list 20 of Latin/Greek roots, and took a quiz on Friday. On Monday, they finished up their TBT Instagram posts (I will try to post them on Seesaw sometime this week). The rest of the week was spent finishing up TBT and doing some concluding comprehensive activities! This week on Tuesday, we will begin watching the movie! If you child has not had you sign the movie permission slip yet, PLEASE ask your child about it tonight; if they don't have it signed, I cannot let them watch the movie. I did tell the kids that if they wanted to bring snacks for the movie they could; just make sure there are NO peanuts! This week, I will also be giving the students time to work on their final assignments for the novel, including their artistic quote journal and a letter to a future 8th grader (both sets of instructions can be found in the students' LA folder on Google Drive). Both of these assignments will be due THIS Friday. In grammar, the 8th graders took their Unit 2 test (grades can be see in RenWeb and on Seesaw). Some students did very well, while some did struggle. I will be hosting a test corrections work time during recess on Wednesday. If your child got a C+ or lower, I HIGHLY suggest them coming to make corrections with me. If they do this, there will also be a sheet that I need you to sign, stating that your child corrected their test. These sheets also are due on Friday. Sorry about all the due dates this week...

Phew! I think that's everything! Have a great week! STAY WARM!

Grace
