Good morning... how about that Daylight Savings on Sunday? My phone decided that it didn't want to switch over at 2 a.m. so I was an hour behind yesterday. Good thing it happened on a Sunday and not a Monday!! That wouldn't be good, haha :)
This week starts 3rd Quarter book presentations! I'm very excited to see what the students have come up with. I've heard a lot about what they're working on, but it's always nice to see the finished product. And I'm sure the grandparents will enjoy looking at them as well on Grandparents Day in a few weeks!
I think this week should be pretty calm event-wise, weather-wise (it's supposed to be in the 50s later this week!!!), and homework-wise... thank goodness :)
Important Events:
March 13th - Knowledge Bowl @ LWLHS
March 19th - Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.
March 21st - Fine Arts Night
March 22nd - Grandparents Day/Early dismissal/End of 3rd Quarter
Last Week:
6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders worked on a Monday Meditation about spies and how they would need to fit in in FILS' middle school if they came here. That was due today. The rest of the week was spent working on finishing their decade books with their partners and planning out/working on their decade projects. These projects are going to be presented next Monday. This project should NOT be something that they need to work on outside of class because they are being given plenty of in-class time. In grammar, the students worked with deciding the difference between Pattern 1, 2, and 3. I am thinking that they will be having a grammar test next Wednesday.
7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders worked on a Monday Meditation about spies and how they would need to fit in in FILS' middle school if they came here. That was due today. Throughout the week, the students worked on finishing reading The Outsiders, as well as completing some comprehension questions and a short quiz on chapters 8-11. As a class, the students also filled out a plot structure diagram for the novel, which will be handed in today. Today, I will be discussing the project that they will be doing for The Outsiders. This will be due either Friday or Monday (depending how work time goes this week). This will be all in-class work, so it shouldn't need to be worked on at home as long as the students stay on task. In Shurley grammar, the students continued to work with Pattern 1 and Pattern 2 and did a worksheet. In advanced grammar, the students took their Unit 2 Grammar Test and I was VERY impressed with how they did! It was a hard test and it was very clear to me that they studied :) Proud teacher moment right there!
8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders worked with list 21 of their Latin/Greek roots and took a quiz on Friday. There will be NO roots this week because of book project presentations. On Monday, we discussed their artistic quote journal for TBT, as well as a letter that they were to write to future 8th graders about reading TBT. Both of those assignments were due Friday. The rest of the week we watched TBT movie and ate LOTS of popcorn :) On Friday, to sum up TBT, the students played a competitive trivia game against my other 8th grade ELA class. There was NO grammar due to watching the movie.
Have a great week! Enjoy the nice weather coming up!
