Happy 4th Quarter!!
I cannot believe that we only have 1 quarter left of the school year. This year has gone by so quickly! And with Spring Break/Washington D.C./Chicago trip, it's REALLY going to fly now!
It was a blast seeing all the grandparents last Friday! The students always do such a great job at showing their grandparents around; I love talking with them and hearing their stories :) Also, thank you to all of those who donated food/time for the day. The Grandparents' Day Committee truly appreciates it! While it is a lot of planning, the day is so special for the students. I never had Grandparents Day when I was a kid, and I wish I had. What awesome memories to share!
Additionally, tune in this Friday and weekend to support our FILS 8th Grade Girls' basketball team at Nationals. You can watch the Live Stream at: https://lbaa.org/. I can't wait to watch the girls play their hearts out. I know they've been practicing a long time for this!

Last Week:
6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders finished up their 3rd quarter book presentations, so there was no Monday Meditation. On Monday, they also started their decade presentations, and we finished those up on Wednesday. Later on this week, you will be able to see clips from presentations, as well as rubrics posted on Seesaw. After the presentations, I had the students evaluate themselves and their partners, as well as grade their own projects using the rubrics they created the previous week. All projects were fun to watch! It's always cool to see when the students have the opportunity to come up with their own projects and grading scales (they're always harder on themselves than I am). On Thursday, the students worked on a webquest on Gary Paulsen as an introduction to our next unit/novel study on The River. We will begin reading the The River this week. In grammar, the students took their Chapter 12 test.
7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders finished up their 3rd quarter book presentations, so there was no Monday Meditation. On Monday, the students got to see the other students' Outsiders final projects by participating in a gallery walk throughout the classroom. They also completed a final book evaluation to conclude the unit. The rest of the week, we watched The Outsiders movie, which we will finish up today/tomorrow. In Shurley grammar, the students continued working with Pattern 1 vs. Pattern 2. NOTE: they will be taking a test THIS Wednesday. In advanced grammar, we started Unit 3, which was on common/proper/singular/plural nouns, and the students did a worksheet.
8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders finished up their 3rd quarter book presentations, as well as taking a roots quiz on list 22. On Monday and Tuesday, the students did a webquest on the bubonic plague/tuberculosis in preparation for reading "The Masque of the Red Death." On Thursday, we then read "The Masque of the Red Death" and discussed its overall meaning as well as how it is an example of an allegory. In grammar, we started Unit 3, which was on common/proper/singular/plural nouns, and the students did a worksheet.
Have a great week! Spring is here!
