Weeks 32 & 33

Happy Monday!

It's supposed to be SOOOOO nice today! Hopefully, you can find time to go outside and appreciate the beautiful weather before it's supposed to "snow" on Wednesday... God can be such a tease sometimes, haha :)

NOTE: I am combining this week's and next week's blog into one because of Spring Break next week! I definitely will be shutting my school brain off come Friday at 2:30. Therefore, I hope you all enjoy your break and have a Happy Easter, whether it is going someplace warm or enjoying having your kids around more :) I'm hoping that MN will be nice and I can enjoy my time home!

  • April 11th - D.C. meeting @ 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall

  • April 13-22nd - Spring Break!

Last Week & This Week:

6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders worked on a Monday Meditation where they had to write a story. This week's is also about writing a story. Today's will be due when the students get back from Spring Break. Throughout last week and this week, the students will accomplish reading chapters 7-21 of The River. They will also complete some accompanying activities, including: comprehension questions, vocabulary sheets, a comprehensive quiz, and an edible wilderness webquest. The River is a quick read, so we should be finishing it shortly after we get back from Spring Break. In grammar, the students continued/will continue to work with pattern 4, linking verbs, and predicate nouns.

7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders did their first speech, which was an impromptu speech (they drew a random topic and then had to talk about it for 2 minutes). I was SO impressed with how well the students did on these speeches; definitely a foretaste of what is to come :) On Tuesday, the students learned about informative speeches and then brainstormed which topics they would be interested in doing for an informative speech on. On Wednesday, the students signed up for topics and then began researching/organizing their speeches. Research was due today. This week, Monday and Tuesday, the students will be working on their visual aids and notecards for the informative speech, as well as go over the grading rubric for the speech itself. Wednesday/Thursday/Friday will be informative speeches and speech evaluations. For these speeches, the students are required to dress up. So, no blue jeans, t-shirts, or hoodies. Black jeans, khakis, and patterned pants are okay though, as well as nice t-shirts/polos! In Shurley grammar, the students did test corrections. In advanced grammar, the students worked with personal pronouns and did a worksheet. There will be NO grammar this week due to speeches!

8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders worked with list 24 of Latin/Greek roots and took a quiz on Friday. This week, the students will work with list 25 and take their quiz Friday. On Tuesday, the students participated in their Tell-Tale-Heart trial and did SOOOOOO well! I was very impressed with the effort that the kids put towards their research and presentation. Each class had a different verdict which was also very cool. On Thursday, the students worked on creating a collaborative Poe-ster (hehe), and then competed in a Gimkit to sum up the Poe unit. This week, the students will read 2 short stories, "The Lady or the Tiger" and "The Sniper." We will do some comprehensive activities with both stories. In grammar, the students worked with personal pronouns and did a worksheet. This week, the students will work with possessive pronouns and do a worksheet.

Have a fabulous break and a Happy Easter! Hopefully your kids don't drive you too crazy :)

Grace
