Happy Monday!
I hope you all had a fabulous weekend! I know it has been chilly out, but at least the sun came out yesterday :) Maybe someday it'll actually feel like spring... until then... happy fall! :P
In case anyone is going to be attending the End of the Year Picnic (parents and other family members), the school is asking that you fill out this link to RSVP: https://tinyurl.com/FILSPicnicGuests2019.
Also, we are just ONE WEEK away from book talks/trailers. We will begin presenting on Monday and finish on Friday. A few weeks ago, I posted the dates each student will be presenting; just look back on the previous blogs for dates.
Last announcement: THIS FRIDAY is the Student Council dance from 6:30-9:00 p.m. If your child is interested in going (which I highly suggest they do!!), please be looking in tomorrow's Tuesday Note for a permission slip/RSVP. This year's theme is "DREAMLAND"! Students are able to wear their pajamas (school appropriate), eat some breakfast food/pizza, and participate in some great dance competitions. Door donations this year are going to Jace's Warriors, an organization dedicated to children who have cancer.

Last Week:
6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders had a Monday Meditation where they wrote a letter to their 8th grade self (which they will see when they graduate from FIL). As our last unit of the school year, the 6th graders and I will be talking about different genres, and then doing reader's theaters to practice those genres. Throughout the week, the students learned about fables, fairytales, fantasy, tall tales, and legends. It has been a blast doing these plays with the kids and watching their personalities in the different roles of the stories. On Thursday, we also did some practice with plot structure by watching a short film titled, "The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore." In grammar, the students practiced with patterns 1, 2, 3, & 4 and did a worksheet. THIS WEDNESDAY, the students will be taking their last grammar test of the school year.
7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders finished preparing for their their persuasive speeches, and then gave their speeches Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. After speeches on Friday, the students and I talked about demonstration speeches. This week, the students will be working on their last speeches and be presenting those next week. There was no grammar last week because of persuasive speeches.
8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders worked with list 27 of Latin/Greek roots and then took a quiz on Friday. On Tuesday, the students finished reading "The Most Dangerous Game" (MDG) and then had the option to either take a quiz on the story or complete the comprehension questions. To finish with the MDG, the students wrote their own version of the story, creating their own dangerous game; this was due Thursday. The rest of the week, we worked on vocabulary for our next story, "The Monkey's Paw" (MP), as well as participating in a Socratic Discussion about the events that will happen in the MP. In grammar, the students worked with relative and interrogative pronouns and did a worksheet.
Have a great week!
Only 13 days of school left!
