Week 13

Happy Monday!

I don't really have any special announcements or comments (crazy, I know...), so... let's get straight to the good stuff!

Important Dates:

  • November 19th - Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.

  • November 27-December 1st - Thanksgiving Break/No school

  • December 2-5th - Candy Cane Sales

  • December 5th - Student Council trip to Target after school

Last Week:

6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders did not have a Monday Meditation because I explained what Book Trailers are (student presentation dates can be found in last week's blog post). With their pre-student teachers, the students continued to read DGDP chapters 7 and 8. The students learned about character traits and did an activity to practice the skill (making a comic strip OR a character poster). The students also completed a journal prompt and took a quiz on the first 8 chapters of the book; all did VERY well on their quizzes! In grammar, the students continued to work with interjections and did a worksheet.

7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders worked on a Monday Meditation which was due today. On Monday, the 7th graders also took a poetry pre-test which involved the different kinds of figurative language that we will study in the next unit; it was not graded, but did show me what the students know about poetry already. On Tuesday, the students did an activity where they looked at different kinds of poems and noticed what made each poem special (examples can be seen on Seesaw). The rest of the week, we discussed poem structure, topic, and theme, and did some accompanying handouts with the poems, "Casey at Bat" and "The Mending Wall." In Shurley grammar, the students continued to work with conjunctions and did a worksheet. In advanced grammar, the students worked with types of sentences and did a worksheet.

8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders worked with Latin/Greek roots list #9 and took a quiz on Friday. Monday and Tuesday, the students watched "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" which is always my end for the Exceptionalities Unit. If you've never seen the movie, it is about a man who is born with a disability and how it has impacted his life, and how he learns to become accepted in society. The students then wrote a reflection on the unit (which can be seen on Seesaw). Also, all research papers have officially been handed in (YAY!) and I hopefully will get those back to the students no later than THIS Wednesday. On Friday, the students did a crossword puzzle about the author of The Book Thief. In grammar, the students learned about coordinating/subordinating conjunctions and did a worksheet.

Have a fabulous week! Enjoy the warmer weather!

Grace
