Week 14

God's blessings to you this Sunday morning!

Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Yay! And with a short week this week, I wish you and your family the greatest of Thanksgivings. May it be filled with family, good food, and thankful hearts :)

Also, just so you know, I will be sending home book orders this week. These are the BEST book orders of the year because there are great deals for Christmas time, and they make GREAT gifts for our friends and family. If you are interested in ordering, they will be due Wednesday, December 11th, so that I can get them submitted and have them delivered before we head off to Christmas break. Just a reminder that if you are wanting to order, you can either order online using my teacher code: PBKZC OR fill out the paper form and send in the check with your child. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

Important Dates:

  • November 27-December 1st: Thanksgiving break!

  • December 2-5th: Candy Cane Sales

  • December 5th: Student Council Target shopping trip @fter school until 4 p.m.

  • December 6th: Mid-quarter

Last Week:

6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders had a Monday Meditation which will be due tomorrow. On Monday, I taught the students how to use Adobe Spark Video, which is one of the optional video-making programs that they can use for their book trailers (instructions are also on the Book Trailer Rubric). With their pre-student teachers, the students read chapters 9-11 of DGDP, as well as completed different culminating activities: a fun review game, a journal prompt, and a mini-lesson on cause and effect. Sadly, this will be our last week with our pre-student teachers :( They have done exceptionally well, and I know the kids will miss being taught by them. In grammar, the 6th graders worked with helping verbs and did a worksheet.

7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders did a Monday Meditation which will be due tomorrow. Throughout the week, we continued talking about different types of figurative language, including alliteration, onomatopoeia, and imagery. The students also did some fun activities to practice with these elements: an alliteration advertisement (can be seen on Seesaw), an onomatopoeia comic strip, and analyzing different poems with imagery. In Shurley grammar, the students continued to work with conjunctions and did a worksheet. In advanced grammar, the students learned about dependent and independent clauses, as well as complex sentences; they did a worksheet to practice these skills.

8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders worked with list 10 of their Latin/Greek roots and took a quiz on Friday. On Monday, I went over my expectations for them for reading The Book Thief, and then explained their first project for the novel. Throughout the week, each student researched a component of WWII (which will show up in TBT), and then they put that information in a Google Slides presentation. The students started presenting these projects on Friday, and will finish presenting them this coming week. After Thanksgiving break, we will begin reading TBT :) In grammar, the 8th graders learned about correlating conjunctions and did a worksheet. NOTE: we have finished our first unit of grammar for the year; expect a grammar test within the next 2 weeks.

Have a fabulous week and a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Grace
