Good morning!
Wow, was it foggy this morning! Crazy to think that we went from 50 degree weather this weekend to 80 degrees today... can you say upcoming thunderstorm?? :) Hopefully you all had some time to rest up over the weekend and enjoy the fall weather. Congrats to all of our volleyball players in the tournament this weekend! Go Wildcats!
We are just 2 weeks away from the beginning of our book talk presentations! I will be checking in with students today on how far they are into their books/book talks. If you child has NOT finished their book yet, please be checking in with them and pushing them to use their time wisely at home to finish their book. I would ideally like them to have at least a week to work on the presentation before presenting.
Also, if your child is looking for a super fun activity, the FIL Youth Group is hosting an event at Lammscapes THIS Friday from 4-6 pm. To RSVP, you should have gotten an email OR reach out to Wendy Seban at wseban@fils.org.
Important Dates:

October 7-10th - Box Top Collection
October 10th - Box Top Clipping Party for Student Council members after school - 4pm

Last Week:
6th Grade ~ Last week, the 6th graders wrote a Monday Meditation about a whale shark and his scuba friend; they were due today. On Monday, the students worked with a partner, reading a Japanese tale and then answering some questions about it. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the students worked on their Unit 2: Write About It "test", which was about making predictions, conclusions, and asking questions. To sum up our reading strategies unit, the 6th graders and I played Jeopardy on Thursday and Friday. In grammar, the students took their Chapter 3 Grammar Test and did VERY well! You can see their scores on Seesaw.
7th Grade ~ Last week, the 7th graders wrote a Monday Meditation about a whale shark and his scuba friend; they were due today. Throughout the week, the students and I read chapters 11-16 of Among the Hidden, as well as completing some accompanying activities such as: comprehension questions, journal prompts, and a quiz. On Friday, the students and I did a fun activity having to do with "becoming a shadow child" where throughout the rest of the book the students will pretend they are a shadow child and "blog" with their classmates about their individual lives; on Friday, the students picked fake lives and houses to use for these activities. In Shurley Grammar, the students worked with prepositional phrases and did a worksheet. NOTE: they will be taking their first grammar test THIS Wednesday. In advanced grammar, the students learned about indirect objects and did a worksheet.
8th Grade ~ Last week, the 8th graders worked with list #5 of Latin/Greek roots and took their quiz on Friday. Grades for those quizzes should be entered today. The rest of the week was spent working on the rough drafts for Patriot's Pen as well as self/peer editing. Final drafts will be due TOMORROW at the latest (most students are done and just need to make final corrections from peer editing). In grammar, the students learned about transitive/intransitive verbs and did a worksheet.
Have a fabulous week!
