Weeks 15-16

God's blessings to you this beautiful Sunday!

I hope you are enjoying your weekend; it is my hope to find some time to take a nice nap by the Christmas tree today :) I love this time of year... Advent is here, 2 candles have officially been lit. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year!

THANK YOU to all of those who bought candy canes this past week for Candy Cane Sales. We had a record breaking year in sales, and the kids could not have had more fun shopping at Target for toys. While candy cane sales sometimes seems silly, it is SUCH a fabulous fundraiser for Kapco Toys for Kids. We are so blessed here in Ozaukee County and the thought of some children not being able to get a present for Christmas is heartbreaking... so... THANK YOU for your generosity :)

Just a reminder that Book Trailers will be happening immediately AFTER Christmas break. The students still have plenty of time to be reading/working on their trailers, but it is always nice to have a nice reminder from Mom and Dad as well :) Dates for these presentations were listed a few weeks ago in my blog.

Important Dates:

  • December 17th - Christmas programs at 5 & 7 p.m./Student Council meeting @ 7:05 a.m.

  • December 19th - School-wide yearbook photo - WEAR BLACK!

  • December 20th - Christmas parties/Circle B bowling/Compassion Donations due

  • December 21-January 1st - Christmas break!

The Last 2 Weeks:

6th Grade ~ The 2 days before Thanksgiving, the students had a Thanksgiving themed Monday Meditation, which was due on Monday. The students spent that Monday and Tuesday with their pre-student teachers, Tuesday being his/her last day with the students. Thank you for letting me share your children with the pre-student teachers. The students loved being able to be taught by them. Last week, the students did a Monday Meditation which will be due tomorrow. Throughout the week, the students and I read DGDP chapters 12-15, and did some accompanying activities: comprehension questions, a journal prompt, and a Seesaw chapter review (can be seen on Seesaw). In grammar, the students worked with natural/inverted sentences and did a worksheet.

7th Grade ~ The 2 days before Thanksgiving, the students had a Thanksgiving themed Monday Meditation, which was due on Monday. We continued to talk about figurative language, including similes and metaphors, as well as doing some practice with them. Last week, the students did a Christmas themed gallery walk, which had them working with different poems and the elements of figurative language that they had learned so far. The rest of the week, the students finished learning about the other 3 elements of figurative language: personification, hyperbole, and idiom. We did some review games to practice these elements, such as hyperbole Pictionary, a matching game, and idiom I Have... Who Has? In Shurley grammar, the students took their Chapter 5 Test. In advanced grammar, the students learned about adjective clauses and did a worksheet.

8th Grade ~ The 2 days before Thanksgiving, the 8th graders finished their WWII-based presentations. Once getting back from Thanksgiving, I explained the artistic quote journal to the students (students are required to keep track of at least 2 quotes per section of The Book Thief, and then will compile them into an artistic format at the end of the novel), and then we started reading The Book Thief. So far, the students have read the Prologue-chapter 4. On Friday, the 8th graders took their roots quiz #11, as well as a short quiz on TBT. In grammar, the students reviewed what they had learned in Unit 4 - there will be a test on Unit 4 on WEDNESDAY!

I hope you had a fabulous Thanksgiving!

God's blessings on your day!

Grace
